Understanding Your Propolis Diffuser

Welcome to our Q&A on Propolis Diffusers!

Here, we address common questions to help you understand and make the most of your experience with PropolAir Propolis Diffusers by Kontak.

Whether you're new to using these devices or seeking more information, we've got you covered. Let's explore the ins and outs of propolis diffusion together.

All Propolair propolis diffusers, made by Kontak, are designed to operate in a very subtle way regulated by a thermostat to maintain precise temperature ranges to ensure that the qualities of the propolis are released in the most effective form. This means that the units do not burn exceptionally hot and that the scent of the propolis is quite subtle.

To determine if the diffuser is working, turn it on and allow it to warm up for 5-10 minutes. Then remove the round grille to inspect the capsule to see that it is melting. You can also touch the outside of the heating chamber briefly, and it should be hot to the touch.

Unlike essential oil diffusers, propolis diffusers require no water or oil, producing no visible steam or vapor released, and there is little to no sound depending on whether the diffuser has a fan or not. Units with a fan provide greater square footage coverage than units without a fan, but all effectively release propolis.

Diffusers equipped with fans have a coverage area of 646 ft² when the fan is active compared to 269 ft² without a fan. It activates briefly (4-5 seconds), then turns off for a longer interval (15-20 seconds), and then repeats. The A4 model uniquely offers a continuous fan mode called aerosol for direct inhalation.

After 122 hours of use, the diffuser signals with beeps and blinking lights that it is time to reset. Simply hold the power button solid and steadily until the solid beeping sound is followed by a series of beeps, at which time you can release the power button and it will be properly reset. You may now add a new capsule. The diffuser is ready for a new 122-hour cycle.

When the diffuser is successfully reset all beeping and blinking lights will stop. The A2 and A4 diffusers will also indicate on the display the number 122 in the top right corner by the letter D, indicating a new 122 hour cycle of use is beginning.

Be aware that for all models, the old capsule never burns to emptiness and it will have a substantial amount of residue in the tube when it is time to reset the diffuser. This is normal, and what remains is an inert residue devoid of any active constituents after 122 hours of use. Never reuse an old capsule.

All Propolair propolis capsules on our website can be used in all models. BIO is 100% organic Italian propolis, and P+B is 95% Italian propolis with 5% Boswellia, suitable for treating physical spaces and inhalation. Other capsules are blends of 80% propolis and 20% essential oils, recommended for use in treating the environment NOT for tube and mask inhalation.

If you are using diffusers for mold in a physical space, do not run air purifiers or air filters at the same time as the diffuser because the propolis will be filtered out. Instead, you can alternate their use, for instance, one at night and the other during the day. Customer testimonials suggest that it is helpful to run the diffusers continuously for 2-3 weeks, 24 hours a day to address mold. Depending on factors unique to your situation, you may then better assess your needs after that to decide how much to run the diffuser.

For children under 3, avoid ionizer-equipped diffusers due to insufficient research demonstrating the absence of risks. The A4, Breathe and A2's new version have an ionizer WITH the capability of turning it on and off. The L1, A1, and Propolina (honeybee diffuser) do not have an ionizer.

In regard to safety concerns for pregnant or breastfeeding women and infants, it is considered that using the diffusers is safe, but individual circumstances may vary. If you have specific concerns,  it is recommended to consult with healthcare professionals.

It is advised to expose yourself and others to propolis vapor in a room setting for a few hours, even if not intending to do inhalation immediately. Avoid using the tube and mask right away, especially for children. After exposure in a room without issues, allow the diffuser to heat up for 5-10 minutes before proceeding to use the tube and mask for a brief time, perhaps 10-15 minutes, to observe for any reactions. Customer testimonials suggest that inhalation sessions of 15-30 minutes 1-2 times a day can be helpful for respiratory issues. For chronic situations, the manufacturer suggests following this procedure for up to 7 days, followed by a rest period of 3 days, and then repeating as needed. Always consult with your healthcare provider to determine the best approach for your specific situation.

The optimal model for tube and mask inhalation is the A4, which includes a tube, two masks (child and adult), and an inhalation program called Aerosol mode in addition to a Room mode. Tubes and masks can also be used with models that do not have an ionizer (A1, L1) or models that allow turning it off (A2). Because of the design of the Breathe and Propolina(Honey Bee) diffusers, it is not possible to use a tube and mask with these models.

If you experience side effects while using the diffuser, it is recommended to start with limited exposure, for example, 30 minutes to 1 hour. Gradually increase the exposure time to 1 hour, half a day, a night, etc. Begin in a sufficiently open space before transitioning to a smaller room. Before attempting inhalation, ensure that you tolerate diffusion in your environment well.

Pets can also be sensitive to propolis vapor, and if you notice adverse reactions in animals, consider adjusting the diffuser placement or limiting their exposure.
